What is a gold alloy?
What does gold alloy mean?
And what “gold colors” are available for the gold rings and gold chains at CAPULET Jewelry?
Simply explained, a gold alloy is a mixture of gold and other metals. Pure gold, also known as 24-karat gold, is very soft and susceptible to scratches and deformation. To improve the hardness, strength and other desired properties of gold, additional metals are introduced into the gold mixture. These metals are called alloying elements .
The alloying elements mixed with gold can vary depending on the desired result. Commonly used alloying elements are copper, silver, zinc and nickel. Adding these metals to the gold alloy can increase the hardness , affect the color , and change the melting point of the gold.
The choice of alloying elements and their proportions ultimately determine the properties of the gold alloy. For example, adding copper to a gold alloy can produce a warm, yellow hue, while adding silver can result in a lighter, whiter hue.
Gold alloys are often used to make jewelry because they are more durable and resilient than pure gold. The most common gold alloys for jewelry are 18k (75% gold), 14k (58.3% gold) and 10k (41.7% gold). These alloys offer a good combination of strength, durability and beauty for jewelry use.

What is the difference between yellow gold and rose gold and CAPULETgold?
Yellow gold, CAPULET gold and rose gold are three different alloys of the precious metal gold. The main difference between them is their color tone. Sometimes the colors are just slight nuances, which are very important for us at CAPULET. Because it is important to us that our gold jewelry never appears too “yellowish”.
All about yellow gold
Yellow gold is the most classic and widely used gold alloy. It is made of pure gold (24 carat) and other metals such as copper, silver, zinc or nickel to make it more durable and resistant. These additional metals are added to increase the hardness of the gold, as pure gold is not suitable for jewelry making due to its softness. Yellow gold has a warm, yellow hue that can vary depending on the proportion of metals mixed in. At CAPULET we make sure that the yellow gold has a pleasant, light color that is not too yellow.
All about rose gold
Rose gold, also known as red gold or pink gold, is a mixture of gold and copper. The higher the copper content, the redder the color of rose gold becomes. This alloy uses less silver or zinc to emphasize the reddish hue. The result is a warmer, more delicate color that lies between gold and pink. Rose gold has gained popularity in recent years and is often used in wedding rings.
It is important to note that both yellow gold and rose gold can have the same gold content, such as 14k or 18k. The difference lies only in the additional metals added to the alloy to achieve the desired shade.

What does “sustainable gold” mean?
Sustainable gold, also known as ethical or environmentally friendly gold, refers to gold that is mined and traded with social, environmental and ethical standards in mind. It contrasts with conventional gold mining, which is often associated with environmental degradation, human rights abuses and illegal practices.
Sustainable gold is sought in various areas:
-
Environmental sustainability: Sustainable gold mining is intended to minimize the negative impact on the environment. This includes reducing water consumption, energy consumption and waste generation. Certification programs such as the Responsible Jewelery Council (RJC) set standards for environmentally friendly gold production.
-
Social responsibility: Sustainable gold should be mined in compliance with human rights and labor standards. This includes protecting workers from exploitation, adhering to safety measures and involving local communities.
-
Transparency and traceability: To ensure sustainable gold, it is important that the supply chain is transparent and the gold can be traced from the mine to the dealer. Certification programs such as the Fairtrade Gold program enable consumers to purchase gold that is responsibly sourced.
-
Recycling: A sustainable gold industry emphasizes the recycling of gold. This reduces the need for new gold mining and reduces the environmental footprint.
There are various initiatives and certifications that promote sustainable gold. These include the Fairtrade Standard, the Responsible Jewelery Council (RJC) and the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA). These organizations set standards for sustainability in the gold industry and help ensure that gold is mined and traded responsibly.
By purchasing sustainable gold, you support a responsible and ethical gold industry that has positive social and environmental impacts.
